Storm Glass Drop
A storm glass used by 19th century navigators to forecast the weather.
The shape of the crystals changes every day, so it's fun to watch them.
Size: W 8 x D 8 x H 11 cm
Material: Borosilicate glass, water, ethanol, natural camphor, etc.
-If the weather is clear, the solids in the glass tube will sink completely to the bottom and the liquid will be clear.
- Before the rain starts, the amount of sediment gradually increases and star-like objects appear floating in the clear solution.
Before a storm or heavy wind, some of the solids rise to the surface of the solution and form large leaf-like structures. The solution becomes cloudy and appears to be fermenting. This phenomenon can be seen 24 hours before a change in weather.
In winter, especially when there is snow or frost, the sediment accumulates high up in the tube, the contents are very white, and floating specks can be seen.
- In summer, when the weather is very nice and hot, sediment accumulates only very low in the pipes.
When wind or a storm is approaching, precipitation forms on the wall of the glass tube opposite the direction of the wind.
*This product contains liquid in a spherical glass, so if certain conditions are met, it may concentrate sunlight and other light at one point. Do not install the product in a location exposed to direct sunlight, as the lens effect may burn surrounding items or cause a fire.
